The best thing you can do for your people is to educate them so well, that they don't need you anymore.

TEAM SOCIALIZATION, EMPOWERMENT & EDUCATION aka 'Team S.E.E.'

This Team will host the creative socialization events each month which will include education and empowering short talks on money management, health care, conflict resolution, good parenting, knowing the law, getting out of debt, scholarship opportunities, etc.

Their creative events will include the quarterly Community Bingo & Breakfast, Community Dinner & a Movie, Community 80s Games Day, Community Family Fun Day etc.

Their upcoming event, Bingo & Breakfast will be on Saturday January 30th from 8am to 12 noon.

Every month we organize several educational and empowerment talks for our residents because we know the importance of knowledge. These conversations and presentations have been making a difference in the lives of so many already and we are encouraged to continue to facilitate them on an even more regular basis.

So far we've had presentations on:

1. Money management and debt;

2. Backyard farming and the importance of eating plants over food made in plants;

3. Weight loss;

4. Finding and keeping that job;

5. Scholarships and what it takes to get one;

6. Healthcare for kids;

7. Living the best life you should be living;

8. Coping with life's disappointments;

9. Community Activism;

10. Family planning;

11. The importance of buying land [multi-family or commercial].

12. Wills and Estate Law

One of our biggest concerns in trying to rebuild any community is the social interaction of the residents. How can we say we are a community if we don't even know our neighbours?

The Bingo & Breakfast initiative:

This event allows us the opportunity to bring the residents together for an outdoor meal with an opportunity to laugh and win prizes. Ofcourse we slip several empowerment talks and encourage the residents to get to know each other beyond a casual wave as we drive past each other.

Here's a list of what we need donated:

1. 5 dozen donuts

2. 5 cases of orange juice, apple juice etc.

3. 5 cases of water

4. 5 fruit platters

5. 5 coffee cartons from Dunkin

6. 4 tents (20 by 20 foot)

7. 2 Outdoor potties from Bahamas Waste

8. 5,000 flyers

9. 5 road side banners to advertise the event

The Outdoor Dinner & a Movie Initiative:

Here's something you don't see happening in The Bahamas.

Obviously we have been finding interesting ways to get residents out of their homes and at these community events. This particular initiative is hoped to bring the entire family together for a social that creates memories. Imagine watching a comedy together under the stars, with fresh popcorn popping, the smoke of the grill and the surround sound of a cinema. Ofcourse, we are going to slip in a few empowerment talks, medical advice and family planning talks.

Equally as important, we make sure the residents get to know each other by name and pitch in with serving, cooking and cleaning up after ourselves.

As usual, none of our initiatives are organized or funded by any one individual. To pull of the Dinner & a Movie events requires at least 25 volunteers and so many donations.

We've been fortunate to have persons donate the items for the grill, the popcorn machine, tents, tables, chairs, drinks, bouncing castle and to Dario McKinney for the outdoor movie setup.

If you'd like to volunteer, attend or donate, please join us.
