TEAM BACKYARD FARMING

The Team identified several problems and came up with solutions to each problem. The objectives are to get persons to start backyard farms as a second source of income and as a means of eating healthier foods.

One of the problems we identified is, 'how to start and manage a backyard farm'. The Solution - we're putting together a Backyard Farming Kit for purchase that will come with everything you need to know and a 'How-To' manual for your backyard farm.

Another problem: Packaging your produce for sale. Solution: we'll source the boxes, crates and clam containers for packaging for everyone in the community.

Another problem: How do you know what to farm? Solution: We'll poll/survey the various restaurants, groceries and conch salad vendors to create a list of what they need on a regular basis, the price the pay and the way they want the produce delivered.

Another problem: How to get your produce sold. Solution: We'll launch an online store, we'll distribute fridge magnets throughout the community that list who grows and sells what, we'll launch a community produce market that will operate on Tuesdays and Weekends, we'll launch a community flat bed truck that will drive through the community [like a water truck] selling the produce to consumers, we'll sell to the various groceries and restaurants in the community as a cooperative.

Another problem: Wastage. Solution: We'll take all the produce that was going to spoil and make smoothies, popsicle, teas or juices.
